SEC Gymnastics Championship Rotations are Set!
Posted on 3/13/17 at 5:57 pm
Posted on 3/13/17 at 5:57 pm
1.LSU - 197.785
2.Florida - 197.495
3.Alabama - 197.285
4.Georgia - 197.005
5.Kentucky - 196.750
6.Missouri - 196.540
7.Auburn - 196.135
8.Arkansas - 195.775
The championship is broken up into two sessions, with the top 4 seeds competing in the second session is at 5 PM this Saturday and it will be televised by the SECN
As the number one seed, LSU will go through olympic order, so Vault, then bars, then beam, and last floor.
Florida will start on the bars, Alabama will start on beam and Georgia will start on floor.
Bearing a unseen collapse, this meet should be only between Florida and LSU.
This should be the year where we take home the title in this meet.
LSU currently ranks #1 in the country on vault, #3 on bars, and 2nd on beam and floor just behind Oklahoma.
Projected Lineup:
The vault lineup should be very similar to what we have seen, I expect Cannamela to lead off on vault. That last spot will either go to Finnegan or Priessman depending on how her knee is. Also, the staff will have to decide if Hambrick should compete her 1 1/2 or just the full.
Bars:
Zamardi, Hambrick, Harrold, Edney, Finnegan, and Priessman
Beam:
Macadaeg, Hambrick, Ewing, Li, Finnegan, Gnat
Floor:
Ewing, Zamardi, Hambrick, Edney, Kelley, Gnat

Vault anchor has been Bugs. I don't expect that to change.
Look for the floor lineup to possibly change. I think Finnegan might take Edney's spot.
I also think Sarah's triple wolf will be permanently abandoned.
Everything else looks good. I'm expecting them to bring home the ship.
ETA: just realized you didn't mean the anchor. I think Ruby is a possibility to slide into the vault lineup.

It's been a fantastic season so far. Time to perform like we know we're capable of, and bring home the championship.

It is completely abandoned, way too much of a risk when she already has a 10.0 start value.
The last floor spot depends on how inter-squad meets go, Finnegan has had a little bit of inconsistencies in practice. Edney has looked great, except her first pass she gets a little too amped up sometimes. Either way we are in good hands

I'm worried about bars the most from here on. I know the gymnasts can't really focus on sticking but it's such a big part.

She definitely is very capable, I just wonder if it would be smart or if the staff trusts her enough considering she has only had 3 vaults competed all season. Finnegan form on the full is literally perfection, I think she gets penalized way too much for it. Experience for Ruby shouldn't be an issue as she has competed on way bigger stages. It will be interesting though

Yep. No one should be complaining about having options
Lexie, Sarah, and Ruby would all be great options.
ETA: I take it that you're very close to the program. Have any tidbits to share to the gymnastics fans?

It is critical that they stick the landings, a lot of the routines are really clean. Priessman if she can stick can earn up to a 9.95. Edney if she can do the routine she did last meet we will be in great hands.
Ruby has two major issues, her first release from low bar to high bar, she has to keep her legs together (no its not a dirty joke). As for her dismount, sometimes I don't think she releases at the right time and she gets over rotated and her momentum carries her forward. She has stuck it many times in practice, we just need it to happen in meets as well.
Myia and Finnegan have clean routines, it all just comes down to the landings for them. If they can stick, expect high 9.8 scores or low 9.9 scores.
Personally, I want this team to hit a 49.400 on this event, that would be an excellent number to shoot for. All the other events we are capable of hitting over 49.500 easily.

It happens so fast that those with untrained eyes (like moi) miss it.
I've been trying to watch it for more of the technical aspect instead of just looking at it from 10k feet to see if it looked "good" or not.

Not to be negative nancy but I am kinda concerned about this incoming recruiting class. Talent wise I am not sure if its as capable as other past classes. Reagan Campbell I think has an injury right now but she will be a stud on beam and floor. I think she can be good on bars but needs work. I am somewhat confused because there has not been any official word from LSU that Bridget Dean is in this freshman class. She I think will be really good on floor and bars. On her twitter she says LSU gymnast. Gracen Standley has to be a project, she comes from Lexi's gym but I just don't see her as someone to contribute much except just adding depth maybe.
Also a girl named Sarah Edwards is supposed to join this program next season. I think its for her vaulting.
Next years class we have Christina Desiderio she is an absolute stud. Was at the olympic trials. Her floor and beam is world class, she is capable on vault too. She should and will not ever train bars here at LSU, its just not her strong suit at all

Gymnastics is a very difficult sport to understand because a lot of these vaults, release moves and passes happen so fast and people don't understand where the form deductions come from.
On bars specifically you always want to hit hand stands at a vertical level. Toes should be pointed, there should be ZERO leg separations on release moves, you also get deducted if there isnt enough amplitude on releases. Chest has to be high on the landing. Anything rushed will be deducted also, I have a best friend who was a gymnast, it really does take a while to get used to seeing and understanding where these deductions are.

Thanks a bunch. It's such a beautiful sport to enjoy. The blend of artistry and athleticism is unmatched.

Li v. Edney for that 4th Beam Spot. You know DD is working them crazy to get them ready, but as I have previously stated, this meet being in Jacksonville is a bit of a worry because Florida is gonna get home type scoring. Should be fun though!

Its funny because Florida was bitching about some of our scores in the meet a couple weeks ago, I do agree some of our scores to me were a little high but its funny how hypocritical they are. At home they get ridiculous scores for average routines, even teams that go in to their meets get scores they haven't received before. I am not sure how they select judges for these meets but they really should have another conferences judges do the judging.

Tigerbait357 and rmnldr -
Thanks so much for the technical insight and info.
I agree with everything you guys have said. Sarah does not need to try a triple on the beam (assuming she is in the lineup) - high reward but also very high risk (falling off previously). If she is in the beam lineup she can almost assuredly get a 9.95 without that high risk maneuver. She is that good!
I am a guy and have never competed in gymnastics. Even if I did, I can't hold a candle to these young ladies' talent and couldn't come close to what they are accomplishing. I enjoy this sport a lot, though.
I also agree with the need to stick dismounts from the bars. Even very slight steps from several of the 6 would be acceptable to show improvement. IMO, this is our largest opportunity area of any event in which we could gain up to 0.5 team points in each meet. This is how we can eventually beat Oklahoma. I understand that it's very hard to do. We can still do it...

The amount of points we lose due to the landing on the dismount really does add up, small steps are .05, a big step is a .10, if you back peddle or stumble its even more. They can really help themselves just by sticking it. The routines are good enough for high 9.8 scores. I don't think we have the bar workers on this team to tally something higher then a 9.95.
