This technology is immature and no manufacturer can currently make a totally autonomous vehicle that will function correctly under all driving conditions. What can be done presently is semi-autonomous operation. These current vehicles cannot operate in driverless mode in city traffic. They can drive autonomously on the open highway but the human driver will have to take control of the vehicle in certain circumstances, such as road work or traffic jams, or detours. I have heard 10-15 years before fully autonomous vehicles will be made available. It will take that long to work out the software that can properly deal with all traffic situations.
