Over a million acres burned in Texas Panhandle, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Reports of horses and deer running around on fire. Say a prayer for these folks!

Waiting for a morning report on our place. Yesterday it had reached Box Ranch in south central Kansas. Was 6 miles from ours which out there isn't far. Fire spreading across 30 miles being fed with 40-60 mph winds can move quick

One side of my family is from Borger/Fritch area. They had problems a few years back with wildfires.

I was in Amarillo a couple weekends ago and as we were leaving in the distance it looked like a bad storm but I saw nothing on radar. As we got closer it became evident that it was a fire. Looked like a huge tornado from far away.

These fires are devastating. Takes 5+ years in some cases before any of the native grasses come back

It's part of the ecosystem though. Sucks for anyone damaged by it but without fire you don't have the native grasses in the first place.

Sort of.
Its part of the natural ecosystem if things weren't manipulated by man. ie, plains instead of farmland. Also fires may have more frequently ran through the area thus decreasing the intensity of this fire.
Hard to compare at natural state fire to this one which is heavily altered by humans.
