Doyle Alexander for John Smoltz.

It was intended to be one of those deals where the good team (Detroit) rents a proven veteran for the pennant race and the bad team (Atlanta) gets a prospect to build for the future. Alexander had a great season and helped them win the division.

Smoltz had a Hall of Fame career.

Braves send:

Elvis Andrus
Matt Harrison
Neftali Perez
Jarrod Saltalamacchia
Beau Jones

Rangers send

Mark Teixeira (played 1 season, July 2007 to July 2008, before we traded him. Angels trade raped us on that deal too)
Ron Mahay (played half a season and signed with KC)

Flags fly forever. The Tigers won the World Series. This trade, technically, is EXACTLY how these deals are supposed to work. Sort of like Iginla for Nieuwendyk in the NHL. Both teams got what they were trading for.

Glen Davis for Curt Schilling, Pete Harnisch, and Steve Finley is up there. Davis was worthless, and all three players he was traded for became all-stars, and Schilling might go to the Hall of Fame.
