I'm in banks heavy for the next 2 years. The higher interest rates will legitimately help banks, but it's the deregulation that gets everyone all giddy..... But then the scamming will start and the collapse will happen. It always does. Some banks can't help themselves and they will bring the other banks down with them. I'll be out (hopefully) before the inevitable.
As for oil, it's a declining industry. They can keep subsidizing it and I'm sure they will...but technology can't be stopped. The strong oil companies will still thrive...those that have diversified into modern energy.
Look at AT&T. Its sole business 35 years ago is absolutely dead; not only that, they sold out of wireless 15 years ago...and they are still a giant (thanks to purchasing Cingular). Some oil companies will still be giants even after oil use is way diminished.
