So..
The more hours I pour into BotW, the more fearful I become that my Switch will corrupt this 70hr Zelda save file.
Still no update from Nintendo if we will ever be able to backup save files for games?

Idk how they get their numbers, but even the Wal-Mart app showed college drive had the switch in stock (it doesn't show how much) and they didn't have any.

I can't speak for that store in particular but it's pretty normal for a college kid working retail to not give one frick and lie about what all they have in stock just so they don't have to look it up. I've had it happen at Toy R Us, Best Buy, and Game Stop many times.
