I sort of get that City of God (which this board loves) vibe when reading and seeing the previews about Moonlight. That dark, gritty, inner-city slum full of struggle. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

That's actually a great call.

I used Mud as an example, but City of God is a better one

And I do think The Wire Season 4 is a solid parallel as well.

City of God is my favorite movie ever.

I've seen Moonlight and it isn't close to as good of a film IMO.

It's nothing like City of God. You see 1 gun in Moonlight and it's never fired. If I had to compare it to any movie it would be Boyhood. Moonlight is more intimate and dark in subject matter.
