Seriously, this is probably the problem. Especially, if the car is FWD. It's easy to check, but make sure you have a friend you really trust and quick relaxes, just in case something happens.

Have you looked at the caliper? I've seen a caliper bolt fall out before so that when the brakes were engaged the caliper would swing up and down slightly (pivoting on the remaining bolt) and make a clunking noise every time the brakes were pressed.

If your brakes were recently changed maybe the bolt was left loose and backed out.
