It's cool, but it is also expensive as hell. Therein lies the rub.

In Seattle I live about 90 miles from a lot of ski resorts... can go skiing at any time I want as its only an hour and a half drive to places like Crystal Mountain

Yet I only go once or twice a year because its too expensive. Lift tickets $75 for one day. I don't buy my own skiis because I don't go enough to justify the expense. So I rent skiis there and thats another $50

$125 for a day of skiing. That's just too much to do too often, and thats for someone who lives near a slope

Factor in all those who dont live near slopes and can only go when they take a vacation

You can ski for cheap, but it's still an expensive vacation. I hope it turns into the least cool thing to do on the planet.

Like almost any other vacation, depends on where and when you go.

Skiing is cheaper in the early and late season. Most years, the late season is a bargain because the slopes are still snow covered but nobody is on them.

This. Looking at a couple grand per day for a family of four.

These days I find nothing active is still cool. No one I know my age (late twenties) wants to do anything that requires a sweat. When we go out on the lake I bet my balls busted cause I wanna take the motorboat and ski/wakeboard but everyone else wants to just cruise on the pontoon boat. People are just lazy as frick nowadays.

The expense stuff is valid for a family, but frick it's not that expensive for a group of individuals. If you live in a big city (we live in Houston), you can get round trip Denver direct flights for $200 if you plan well. Split a car, split a house, most have our own gear, just buy passes and bring food.

Anyone making the expense excuse without a family to account for is just lazy or poor.
