There was one sentence handed down in MS back in the 90s related to a death caused by dui where a teenage drunk dude rear-ended a car, killing a kid in the car that he hit. He served a few years in prison, had to speak to high schools for a few more, but he also had to send the mother/family of the victim a weekly check of $1 for ten years, or else serve the whole sentence. The reason line of the check had to say "For the death of your daughter."
