yes they did. the composite bats they used preceded the BBCOR bats used now and were very hot, which is why they made the switch to BBCOR bats.

no, those bats were warm, but definitely not hot.
i was finishing high school ball in '96.

damn near anyone could launch one nearly 400' with the bats we had then.
they had a 2-3/4" barrel and were drop 5s and then all absolutely exploded off of them.

by the time Dean and Schimpf were here, they were 2-5/8" barrels and drop 3s.
yeah you could still give it a ride, but nothing like the mid 90s.

there is a reason that '97 team hit twice as many fingers as the '09 team.
