I really don't think lack of online play hurt it that much considering online play was never that big on the PS2.
Of course, it's balanced out now between PS4 and XBONE. I can't remember for sure if PS4 has an advantage still in sales or not.
Either way, Nintendo has been the bottom feeder since.
