I think we've talked about this in one of the other Nintendo Switch threads but I think it's because they want to have some good news to report to investors. Their fiscal year ends on March 31.

They want to be able to say, "Look! Retailers across the world are selling out of our new console and can't keep them on the shelves. Surely, the future of Nintendo is bright." And based on the NES Classic, they'll be right about the first part at least.

And funny you mention the problems with the BOTW pre-order. I pre-ordered the Wii U version in January from Amazon and checked my pre-order yesterday to discover it wouldn't be arriving until March 31. I emailed them and they fixed it this morning but I found a thread on Reddit where others were complaining about the same exact thing. Odd.

I'm not an investor or anything, but I would think showing them impressive sales numbers and dollar figures would be better than saying they sold out.
