Yeah. It's over the top.
But the story is written to engender sympathy based on the deportation. Lots of people commit suicide every day. It doesn't say much about anything except their own personal mental state.

There's no cause for celebration and this is a tragic story.
On a totally unrelated note, the laws of the USA must be enforced. Any nation that is unwilling or unable to enforce its own laws is a failed nation.
The USA is NOT a failed nation.
