Time slows down as you approach light speed. So if you left the earth at or near light speed and then tried to come back after a substantial amount of time, you would technically find yourself in the future.

Time is experienced relatively. At or near lightspeed, what feels like a few hours or days to you results in (I don't know the exact correlation) possibly years or many, many years having passed elsewhere.
