Aside from getting to "test drive" the marriage:
It's also incredibly expensive to live on your own and pay for a wedding. By living together you have more flexibility to save for the wedding/honeymoon.
We saved a little over $20K specifically for the wedding and honeymoon over 18 months. That would not have been possible if we were living apart.
This isn't the 1950's where single women live at home until they are married off.
