You don't think that the tax will be passed on to the consumer? You think that companies are just going to eat that loss? That's not the way that the world works. The costs are always passed on to the consumer.
ETA: It's no different than the asinine idea that raising the minimum wage would help our economy. Raising the minimum wage hurts the middle class because those extra costs are inevitably passed on to the consumer.
