I actually own a tandem kayak...but mainly so that I can bring both my dogs with me when I go kayaking(my lab is too big for the single one). I also own a single one as well...normally one of us uses the tandem with the dogs and the other one in the single one.

My husband and I made the mistake of taking it with us to Lake Tahoe. Thought we would just use the tandem one and go on this 3 hour kayaking trip in Lake Tahoe. OMG was that a horrible idea! He's bitching at me because our paddle strokes aren't matching up(it's not the fricking Olympics...who gives a frick). By the end of our kayak trip we were certainly not feeling all "lovey dovey happy on vacation". Lesson learned....tandem anything is a divorce in the making

Very true. A couple that can go on a long canoe trip without tempers flaring is a rare and special thing. That's why my canoe has been nothing but a snake shelter since getting kayaks. Wanna paddle like a fricking dork? Fine, that's all on you.

Yeah I'm sitting here imagining my level of annoyance stuck in the middle of the river in a tandem kayak with a spastic female....
