It was a dud because word of mouth destroyed its chances at a billion.
So a film that made $900 million worldwide is a dud now? It's incredible the expectations people put on these films in terms of making money. It surely disappointed in that it didn't make it to $1 billion, but to call it a dud is being a little overdramatic.

That was when the superhero genre of films was just getting started and people were starting to tune in.
Not true at all. The superhero genre had been going strong at the box office since X-Men debuted in the summer of 2000. It was the draw of superhero films that made Marvel decide to take the plunge and develop an inter-connected universe. That never happens without the success of the X-Men and Spider-Man franchises.

Word of mouth about how bad DCEU movies has been is damaging their earning potential and it will continue.
Only if the movies continue critically disappoint. Hopefully Warner Bros. has learned their lesson and the next two films are better received.

Actually I just checked and it didn't even make 900 million. It stopped at 868 million.

Warner Bros was shooting to make well over a 1.2 billion dollars with it as they poured in close to 500 million in total budget expenses. It had to make well over 925 million at the box office to cover the budget. They failed and Warner Bros lost money on BvS.
BvS was a fricking failure.

X-Men and Spider Man were only a few films spread out over almost a decade. Sure the superhero genre was simmering with some success but it really took off with MCU's Iron Man.

Zack Snyder is a dog that you can't teach any more tricks to and I honestly have no idea why you think that dog can change his spots and make/direct/produce movies that are anything close to what the MCU has in quality, story telling and visual aspects.
DCEU isn't going to get any better until that fat hack is gone.

Yes it is, because they set their studio's budget around what they estimate the box office gross is going to be. That's about $500 million dollars down the tube on other projects they were planning on financing.

Those aren't on MCU levels though. They were really more fun summer action movies. I didn't have faith they could actually make Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man work in the same universe, but they pulled it off. It was a huge gamble on Marvel's part, and it really paid off.

There's been nothing but bad news so far. They deserve absolutely no benefit of the doubt, and every horrible bit of news that came out from the last 3 turned out to be true.
