Wife and I went in January 2012. We didn't ski but did the Elk preserve and did the snowmobile tour to Old Faithful. They are both definitely worth it.
You can see the Elk from the road (not close though) but the wagon tour takes you right through them. Very much a one of a kind opportunity.
The National Park is only open to snowmobiles in winter. Plenty of companies that do tours. Most will cloth you, feed you, and take you to all the highlights back and forth to Old Faithful. This was one of the most memorable days I've ever had on vacation.

Hijack. Thinking about going there in may? Would this be a good time to go to Jackson hole and explore the city and surrounding areas ?
