Why aren't individuals that aren't offered insurance through work allowed to get together with other individuals to form their own group plan?

Congress attempted to repeal Obamacare 52 times when President Obama was in office. Each time afterwards, there were fundraising emails explaining that it could not be done without a Republican President. Well?
The dog caught the mail truck.
Because it was a ploy to get a Republican president into office.
Sadly, not the one the Republican leadership wanted. So they'll drag their feet a bit. It will still happen though.

These bastards better REPEAL or else
It works, or can be made to work. The GOP has cold feet because millions of people now depend on it.

You mean the exchanges that Republicans want to kill?

Too many of them think there must be a replacement before they repeal the law. It needs repealed, whether they have a replacement or not.
Posted on 2/15/17 at 7:28 am to DisplacedBuckeye
A full and complete repeal isn't feasible overnight. People are on the exchanges, and many of them don't want to be. It's not their fault what's happened, and you can't just kick them to the curb just so you get the psychological and political benefit of saying it's done and appease the Breitbart crowd. I was joking about it earlier, but Trump was right to ease up on the time frame. It will be repealed and replaced within the next 18 months.

Republicans aren't willing to take the electoral bloodbath that would ensue from ripping insurance away from 20-30M people, especially with credible reports that doing so would cause 40,000 American deaths a year directly attributable to the action.
If they are, they'll repeal.

You are very apoplectic about this. You should just calm down and accept that it will be repealed and replaced.

Who said anything about doing it overnight?
If only there was something in place before the ACA....if only.

They might want to start getting the will if they want to keep winning elections. The majority of Americans want the ACA repealed. It's going to happen.

They've painted themselves into a corner. Repeal, lose elections and own every failing of the healthcare system. Don't repeal, and piss off their rabid base and lose elections because of it.

Not at all. When the majority of Americans want you to take an action, you should probably consider taking action.

It's absolutely true. In fact, just last month 58% named repealing the law as a top priority or important.

Poll: Most Americans Say Don't Repeal Obamacare Without A Replacement
January 6, 20173:01 AM ET
ALISON KODJAK
An overwhelming majority of people disapprove of Republican lawmakers' plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act without having a ready replacement for the health care law, according to a poll released Friday. And judging by the letter-writing and lobbying in the first week of the new congressional session, many health care and business groups agree.
A poll released Friday by the Kaiser Family Foundation finds that 75 percent of Americans say they either want lawmakers to leave Obamacare alone, or repeal it only when they can replace it with a new health care law. Twenty percent of those polled say they want to see the law killed immediately."

That's a remarkable political feat to be able to so appease your "lackies" without expending a SINGLE vote on behalf of your party. Those GOPers sure are some crafty sonofaguns.

There's a natural replacement that comes from repeal: the free market. Hospitals and insurers want to make money. Patients want health care. There is a market and profit motive will fill the void. It's the American way (or used to be).
