Yes it does, and that's why it should have been the template that Superman and all the other characters were based on. All Superman works for basically any Superman story you need to tell. And yeah, I doubt those assholes Snyder or Goyer have read it. Kevin Smith thinks the only comic books Snyder has ever read are The Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, and 300.
Where he pulled Man of Steel from in the Superman mythos I don't have a clue. The only thing I can think of is trying to make the exact opposite of Superman Returns. Well, he succeeded in that, but none of Superman or his universe were left intact.
