I'm legitimately curious as to why I or anyone else should dismiss this whistleblower or the article. You claim to be informed on the topic, so I expected more than a canned "fake news" response.

Apparently Dr Bates had to later clarify the issue after the stories reported that he was alleging fraud. NYT's Story

“The issue here is not an issue of tampering with data,” he said, “but rather really of timing of a release of a paper that had not properly disclosed everything it was.”
Clearly there are some concerning issues, but I think people are trying to fit it into the exteme.
