Confidence is key in beginning of season and look how many softball and baseball good hitters from previous years start off slow.

Not a perfect weekend, but no cupcake teams were scheduled.

Quick takeaways:

Springfield & Doyle - Hell of a 1st impression.

Defense looked pretty clean compared to last year. Serrett and Sanchez should be a great tandum at SS and 3B.

Jaquish seems as she is having some fun out there and swinging a nice bat. Also showing some great leadership as well. Very impressed with Sahvanna this weekend.

Excited to see the development of Andrews and Dawson.

Pitching was about average this weekend, but definitely will get stronger throughout the season.

I really thought Dawson would play more from reading a lot of reports on here.

Did she play today at all?

He was put on notice by an admin last night that he faces a permaban if he doesn't cool it with the horseshite.

This is you warning, Mr. Ducote. If I see that you've spoken negatively about a player or a family member again, then you will be gone. And I would advise Chicken to permaban you from the site.

Have a great rest of your night

And I think some of the other people who were acting like jackasses in the softball thread took heed because they are nowhere to be found today

Agreed great weekend. Have to get the freshman on the field. Doyle and Springfield have been given major opportunities and have taken advantage of it. Andrews has looked impressive when given a chance and Dawson in her very limited role has been explosive.

How many opportunities does the staff have to continue to pour all over certain players before they realize they have reached their ceilings and they simply are not very good. We have seen this consistently over the last couple of years. It's like the staff just crosses their fingers and hopes and prays something will eventually click with some of the favorites and it never has.

We still have a couple of players not on the field that simply make us better and I can't grasp why they are not given the same opportunities to show what they can do.

Can you just elaborate a little for me because Thornhill, Quinn, and Serrett all had issues with their bats, but I thought the fielding was decent. Griggs and Landry had a decent weekend as well and I know you are not referencing Jaquish. Just looking for a little more detail. Thanks!

We need to see more ABs from Dawson and Andrews. Thornhill is an easy replacement, but will Beth dare remove a senior in Quinn from the lineup to make room for Dawson? Griggs is playing great for now, but will her bat cool off or stay hot? I think Sanchez at 3rd just may workout. Team is playing solid defense right now and that's promising for us if it holds up.

Pitching gotta get better, but I'm confident it will. We need Hoover back in Freshman form. It's gonna be super crowded with pitching next year with another HS All-American coming to join the team. Good problem to have, but hope they stay since Hoover and Walljasper finish up eligibility in 2018.

Just stop already. We get it. You want Nicky Dawson on the field more. Either enjoy the season or don't. Just stop bitching about it. Some of those "not very good" players you refer to played key roles in getting LSU deep into the WCWS the last two years. Go meet educote and y'all can have a private bitch-fest together so the rest of us aren't subjected to having to read it

Quit crying LSUgrad.

Some of those "not very good players" happen to be some of the very worst in the SEC at their respective positions. Do you not believe a team should try to get better at every position, every year? Or since we have success should we just ignore our proven weaknesses?

I want the best players on the field at all times and in just the short appearances we have seen it is apparent we have significant upgrades on the bench to a couple of players out there.

I will enjoy the season like I always do and I will also comment on this team like I always do. I don't bash players and/or parents like educote so don't lump me in with him. I give what I feel is an honest analysis of the things I see based on facts and reality. You can apologize for lumping me in with educote in reply to this post.

By the way, this is a opinion/comment board so don't take yourself so seriously.

Guys..Quinn just has not ever cut it at 2nd. Cannot hit in big spots and is a butcher at 2nd. Griggs had a nice weekend at the plate. Although she can be a liability defensively.
Even Stevie Wonder can see after this weekend that Andrews can cover so much more ground in the outfield. Hope it all works out....

I hear what LSUGrad9295 is saying though. People flood the thread after a loss with slander and complete disrespect, but tend to be really quiet after a win. It is extremely frustrating as someone who is here regardless.

The fact that negative opinions are being thrown out after the first weekend is a little confusing as well. Do we know that Dawson has performed better than Quinn in the preseason? Has she looked better in field in the preseason? Has she looked better with the bat in the preseason? The only people who know this are the players and coaches in their locker room. Defensively, Quinn did not have a bad weekend at all. I do not think it is fair to carry 2016's season to 2017.

In my opinion, clearly in the 2016-2017 season, as of now, Beth has felt that Connie has done enough to start over Nicky and nothing has changed that this weekend. She went with two Freshmen often this weekend in Springfield and Doyle. Looks as she knew what she was doing there. Let it play out.

The girls are back in town!

This season is starting very similar to last year. I enjoy softball, gymnastics and all our other sports, along with positive commentary from many of our knowledgeable and avid softball fans.

There are many good thoughts presented but my final vote is for BT and her staff's decisions on who plays and when, as they have brought this sport to new levels. Kudos to our coaching staff!

In Beth I trust. She has reasons and unless you've been at every practice, none of us will know reasons for sure. Maybe she hasn't beat out the others yet? When she does, she'll play
