I can't substantiate this but I think one loudmouth dude just spouted off about a boycott and an over zealous reporter a heard about it and decided to go for his Pulitzer with a scoop.

Sam Spiegelman with SECcountry. He either had a shoddy source or tried to make a clickbait story and stretched the truth.
Regardless, it all falls back on terrible reporting by spiegelman. Even if the story wasn't a complete sham, it appears he released the story with zero investigation. And, even after it was exposed as false/overblown, he still wrote articles saying the boycott was still in consideration
