I've never tried one, but they just look extremely uncomfortable, and I can't sleep on my back. Plus I've read that they don't actually decrease your blood pressure and heart rate even though may help you to breathe easier. Please correct me if I'm wrong about that.

It's not necessarily about the systemic blood pressure. It's more about how sleep apnea causes alterations of the pressure within your chest which can in turn affect how your heart fills with blood as well as the pressure it takes to pump it out. And not in a good way. This over time leads to the problems we see in sleep apnea.
