The Republicans just didn't want that letter in the record. Just like Strom Thurmond didn't when it was originally penned in 1986.
It is a bit ironic given how so many Republicans like to point out MLK was a Republican(he wasn't) but yet they don't want the words of his widow towards one of their own read. The funny part is the letter will now probably be read by a lot more people than it would have had they just let her read it. I've already seen a handful of people on Facebook this morning sharing it.
