I think decisions to preserve trading the dollar in USD are practically made for the President. Trading in a currency that isn't the dollar (or the euro, for that matter) would have devasting economic effects the world over. No major world leader wants that to occur. Thus, we fight and kill. And we throw in some humanitarian aid for good measure.

there really isn't another option
the chinese manipulate their currency too much
this ain't the 80s, so the Japanese yen is no contender
the Euro doesn't even include the pound and they have had some severe economic issues pop up lately
we're the most stable country on earth, also
