Yes definitely make the drive up through Jackson Hole/Grand Tetons. It's magnificent. But I would also seriously consider driving west out of Denver on I-70 through Glenwood Canyon. I've made that drive and it is absolutely stunning. There are several videos on YouTube with people who have recorded that drive. Also not far outside of Denver on I-70 is the Buffalo Bill Museum & Grave, Doc Holliday's grave around Glenwood Springs (if you like history), and then on the border of Utah and Colorado, up by Wyoming, is Dinosaur National Monument. Lots of dinosaur fossils, bones, etc., which I'm sure the kids would like.

This is the most desolate stretch I've ever seen anywhere. The road turned gravel for 60 miles. There was no place to stop for 162 miles, and I found areas of SW Wyoming to be just plain scary. You're so high up and can see so far. I'd do it again.
