It's the one word where someone claims that saying it more like it's spelled is the Cajun way . I've heard pee-rowg, with a very slight g as much as pee row. But from various down the bayou areas, I've heard pee-row. It's not a "only people from up the bayou" thing. I've heard pee-rog with a hard g as well. But it honestly was less common. I admit, I grew up what I referred to as up the bayou, but it's still down the bayou compared to most.
