Yes, his time during the civil rights ear is admirable. However that doesn't give him the perpetual right to just take up space in the US Congress or his opinions to be taken any more seriously about something that is 100% a lie.

Sadly, he'll never be voted out. Too many people in my district have deified him to the point where he is untouchable.

So much latitude has been given to Lewis over the years under the guise of his being proclaimed a "civil rights icon" and "dean of the Georgia congressional delegation." The irony of his existence is that he is well on his way to being the next Robert Byrd or the rights Strom Thurmond. Just another guy who stays on far too long.
His comments relative to Trump are nothing more than his reciting the DNC bullets points on a lack of legitimacy and they are only given coverage as he is black and again a "civil rights icon."

He's my congressman who should've retired 15 years ago. Being a civil rights hero does not entitle one to a congressional seat for life nor does it put one above reproach.

You guys notice the article from the AJC has lots of quotes from Lewis, but not the one where he claims Trump is 'illegitimate', which is what these tweets stem from
