Seems like he doesn't want to serve under trump or he's made some feelings known to that sort.
If he had done anything immoral or it was something illegal contrary to my assumption it would be immediate, and not centered around the day trump becomes CiC

I think the article indicates that even he doesn't know why. But that could be bullshite and you might be right. Still, the timing is very strange.
