What I don't get is that people actually pay to go watch, what is pretty much practice

They are big baseball fans. On top of the games, if you are a big baseball fan it's a great way to actually meet the players. Many older well known former players also usually are at many of the games and sign autographs for fans before games.

Spring training brings in a ton of tourist money to the area. I would say it is the busiest time of year for tourists in this area.

I am a huge sports fan, football is my favorite and baseball is one of my least favorite. I would never buy a pre-season game ticket, but people also pay to go watch their football team's practise.. So I see your point with getting to meet the players.. I am sure its more fun for the kids as well, probably more fun than the actual games because the players do interact with them.

Its an event, entertainment so I get that. I shouldn't have said I didn't understand why people pay to go see preseason games I guess it just does appeal to me much.
