Hoboes are awesome with a great layout, rod storage, and stability. They were the innovators in pedal drives and quality is second to none from what I've seen.

That being said, I use the reverse in my Slayer Propel so often, I can't imagine not having the ability to easily pedal backwards. Hobie's plans to implement a mirage drive that can go in reverse are admirable but the implementation doesn't look too practical. I can stand and fish and if I want to go back a little, I reach down and push a pedal with my hand. When I'm seated, I have instant reverse and don't have to worry about reaching for and pulling a cord first.

Look on YouTube for ICAST 2016 Pedal Kayaks and you'll see all the new models that should be coming out in the Spring.

The PA12 I rented had the new 180 Mirage Drive in it, honestly I didn't care for it. Granted it was my first experience with a Hobie and that drive so I'm sure there's a learning curve but I didn't like having to reach down to swap between forward and reverse, also there were a few instances where the "direction" I had pulled didn't quite lock in all the way, and the only way to tell was to pedal and find out I still was going the wrong way.
