This is a legit reason not to have kids. I love them to death and wouldn't change anything, but damn they're expensive. The one reason why I would advise anyone not having kids is money. If you can't provide for them, don't have them. It's not fair to them or you. If you want an example of how expensive, I pay over 10K a year just for dance/cheer and they're not in junior high yet. When they get to high school, it could cost me as much as 28K just for school cheer/dance, not counting actual lessons.
Our combined income is quite a bit and neither of us is in our 30's yet. That being said, a lot of the things we want to do are still very expensive. We feel like if we are going to have a kid(s) we want to put them in the best school and give them a good life. At some point you have to choose one or the other.
Is it selfish to think that I'd rather do a lot of things in my life that I know a lot of other people wish they could do but couldn't because of their kids?

Sort of.. but imo it's way less selfish than having kids and doing it anyway

No. It is only selfish if your partner wants kids and you don't.
If you both don't want kids because you would rather do whatever you think would bring you more joy, then so be it
But chances are, there will be a point in your life where you or your future wife will regret not having kids

If is selfish, it a selfish act that harms no one. But purposely having a kid you don't isn't unselfish or generous it's stupid. it can make you a horrible parent.
