Im still watching but that scene in that faith healer church was ridiculous.
I was kind of confused. I don't get Gleason's motivation for doing what he did?
Was he making fun of them? Showing his dad that it was stupid? Actually believed?
The end result was hard to watch but I didn't understand why he got the front of the church and ran. Was it the way they were saying to deal with the pain? And he was saying that the pain was all over his body, so look: I can't even do what I did for a job?
Can someone enlighten me about his motivation to do that?
Great documentary.

My thought was that he was kind of giving an FU to his dad for questioning his faith and let him know this shite is real.
His dad seems to be a born again christian and steve doesnt seem to be religious in the same way. It was pretty tough seeing him and his dad interact. The show was really good in showing how different people react to that type of adversity.

quote:I took it as his dad probably pestered him relentlessly about it and he finally caved and thought, "well I don't want to do it but it'll make my dad happy. either I'll be healed or he'll see how phony this stuff is. Either way I'm desperate"
Can someone enlighten me about his motivation to do that?

This is exactly how I felt about this scene. I went back and rewatched it to try and understand if he was just making fun of the whole faith healing thing.
