It is a shitty interface but prime works on my smart TV and Roku without any problem.
They aren't making direct money on these shows kind of like Netflix isn't making direct money on House of Cards or the many comedy specials they are dumping money into. But the plan is to have a large enough library of stuff that it makes paying for prime or Netflix worth it.

I run them off my ipad connected to my tv. No problem at all.
