re: .308 ammo for deer...what would you use?

I shot one deer with 165 game kings out of my 06. The bullet exited in about 4 pieces after hitting a rib. They shoot exceptionally well but they're too fragile for me. You can tell the core is soft because the tips deform very easily. The jacket is also thin like a match bullet. I only suggest them for deer when people have a very picky rifle that won't shoot anything else good enough. I'll take the 1/2" bigger groups the partitions give me in exchange for 100% exits. With something that has as much horsepower as the 06, I want to hit bones on purpose.
