There is a short window in the spring when the cherry blossoms bloom. It's pretty amazing view!

Looks like all the rooms I'm looking at there are 400ish a night around Easter... we'd be looking at going 4/17 weeks

I checked from April 14-17. Didn't realize you were going afterward. There might be a convention or something of that nature going on.

Seems like any decent hotel is 300+ a night

Both are fine spots with Metro not far. Blue Duck is right next to Westin which usually gets top rating in DC.

Hyatt is pretty much in Chinatown so if there are any games going on at Verizon Center (Caps are the better team to see) that could be fun. Also, Rasika is nearby, another great restaurant.

Le Diplomate is a great option I saw someone said earlier. If weather is nice you can sit outside (they don't take reservations). Also, Pearl Dive is right up from there and also a great option.

I would also look at Watergate, they recently opened I believe and we're offering decent deals when I looked to go in November. It is also near Kennedy Center which has many great plays.

Also, to the guy saying he was staying in the Willard, Occidental Grill has great mussels. Check out POV Lounge during the day for some drinks and view of the Mall, White House (turns into a club at night). Also, I would avoid the touristy Old Ebbitt Grill and hit their other restaurant The Hamilton instead, right up the street. Clyde's and The Tombs are also good restaurants (college scene at Tombs but fun) owned by the same group.

Op, we stayed in Arlington, hotel gave free pickup from Regan. Had a free shuttles all day until evening times that dropped you off at a shopoj g retail metro stop and from there you could literally see anything worth seeing. Just hop back on metro and getnoff st your hotels designated spot. Hotel was clean and good area town, was in a block development that had a theatre and restaurants and retail shopping all within 1 or 2 blocks ...D.C. Was easily to best vacation I've ever had . Enjoy

ETA link to hotel. Marriott Hotel I stayed at

This is a great area of town and rooms are under 200 a night, some a good bit under depending on your needs. The free breakfast was legit as hell too, not just bagels .

Looking between the Westin DC Center or maybe the Grand Hyatt Washington ... looks like they're both 4 star and about 300 a night.. any advantage to one over the other?

There is actually a Westin near Georgetown too and it's really nice and is a bit quieter than Thomas Circle

The Hyatt is in a good location and it's really nice. It's in a busy area.

I don't think you'll go wrong with either

Thanks for the feedback... we've also started looking into some Airbnb's as them seem a good bit cheaper.

How's the area around Dupont Circle?

No interest in an AirBnB?

We're heading there about the same time frame. Booked an AirBnB in Clarendon for 5 days, 6 people around $1500. Metro close by, near Arlington, can be in DC proper in no time.

Always liked that area from Washington Hilton to DuPont Circle, but it is a fairly busy area. We always try to hit up City Lights of China for dinner when we're there. DuPont Circle Metro station is right there and is a major hub to get anywhere. If quiet is what you're looking for, you may choose to look elsewhere. The best thing about DC is that it's not a terribly long walk to anywhere. I've walked from the Capital to Georgetown several times.

Blue Duck Tavern is very good, more modern than some other places but good. If you are looking for a bar with more character I'd recommend tabard inn.

This is false, they do take reservations and I wouldn't try to get seated on a nice day without them. They book up (depending on the season) pretty far in advance, so just make a reservation and don't worry about it.

The tombs is good, has a chimes like feel to it and a pretty good crab dip.

This. We skipped the National Cathedral and went to the Basilica instead. It's the largest Catholic Church in North America and the 10th largest in the world. It was incredible. Even the smaller chapels in the crypt were amazing.

Skip the national cathedral, the Basilica is much better or if you don't feel like driving up to it you can check out the cathedral of st matthew the apostle (where kennedy had is funeral Mass).

If you go up to the basilica definitely eat at a pizza place called menomale. Great Neapolitan pizza.

Also check out St. Arnold's for mussels (they have a DuPont location on Jefferson street), Dacha if you are looking for a beer garden (get there early after opening if there is nice weather), and if you are looking for a good Italian deli/sandwich go to a litteri near gauludet (the deaf university).

the circle itself is pretty busy and there is a lot of nightlife, especially on Connecticut Ave

I work just southeast of it but my office is in a quiet area

It's something else to see, for sure. Saw that several times while stationed in the area.

Unless something has changed, they do not take reservations for outside seating. Indoors, the do.

Go through your Congressional office. Can save you from waiting in line.
