Rivals article. Nothing breaking, but an interesting read on O and recruiting.

quote:
That sincerity is contagious to Deculus and Orgeron has it in spades.
“I love him,” Deculus said. “I love how he’s such a good influence on everyone. One team, one heartbeat. Everything that he preaches is true. I love him so much. LSU made a great decision on keeping him.
“When they were talking about bringing in a whole new coach and if it wasn’t him they’d bring in a whole new staff, I was scared about that. I didn’t know what else I would do afterward but luckily everything worked out.”
Kary Vincent, another four-star that LSU poached from the state of Texas, has had similar experiences. The four-star has met many of the biggest coaches in the game and he said it’s easy to tell when a coach is giving you the business.
The Port Arthur (Texas) Port Arthur Memorial standout said he’s certain Orgeron isn’t selling him a bill of goods.
“Coach O is a very genuine person,” Vincent said. “He’s very family-oriented and very sincere in everything that he does.
“He’s known for his famous voice, which really attracts a lot of people. A lot of people like him for that. That’s one thing I really love about him – he’s really sincere. He’s that coach when you go to visit him he’s not going to B.S. you. He’s going to remember every name in your family.”

Wow a downvote on that?

To me people can say what they want about how this will turn out as Orgeron as a head coach in the win/loss column, that remains to be seen. I think he has done what was needed in retaining a top flight DC, obtaining a good OC and assembling/keeping a great staff both in X & O and recruiting. This was not "his" recruiting class and to keep together what the staff has after Les while most likely pulling a few more great recruits given that this was started midway through the year is commendable IMO. Most classes are blown up/ changed given this scenario. The talent will not fall off with "O" as coach and his staff and I will be interested to see the class next year with a full year of recruiting.

I'll say it again, my buddy is a high school coach in Louisiana and said O is far and away the best recruiter he's ever seen and it isn't even close. Stuff like remembering every single persons name resonates over time. Everyone loves him.

The class has pretty much remained the exact same save for a few guys. I think I'll wait until the next recruiting cycle to judge Orgeron. Frankly, I think LSU recruits itself to an extent, but Orgeron is certainly one of the top recruiters over the last 10 years in college football. Granted, this is the one thing he SHOULD excel at and no one ever doubted his ability to recruit, its the other part that makes everyone concerned.
