I've played with both briefly. My initial impression is that google home is a much more powerful search engine. It uses google so that's not shocking where as Alexa uses Bing. For home automation Alexa is light years ahead at the moment. I'm sure google will catch up though. I have dots in several rooms and they control my entire house. If they ever sync them I will have one in every room.

Yep. They just launched their developer tools in December I believe, so integration with other devices and app should follow
I'm very impressed with both devices tbh.
