I was thinking about getting a salt block as a Christmas gift for some family. What say the F&D Board? Do these things suck or would it be a decent gift to receive?
FWIW the do grill a pretty good bit
TIA

Someone gave me one a few years ago and I eneded up putting it in the woods for the deer. They loved it by the way.

Got one a couple of years ago and don't really use it. The taste it gives to the food is OK but it is kind of a hassle. You have to heat it really slow so it doesn't crack, it's awkward to store...maybe I just haven't found the groove with it.

I bought one. Still in the bag it came in.

got one a couple years ago, did some shrimp on it, "cleaned" it the put it in a paper bag and havent used it since.
As someone who loves to cook, theres probably a better gift to give that person.

If you decide to buy one in spite of all these comments, let me know and I'll send you mine that's still in the box for half price or even a beer trade or something. Let me know if you're interested.

Was not familiar with these so googled. No thanks.
Step 1: Have salt block
"Step 2: Go slowly! S-L-O-W-L-Y. Slow. Slow and steady wins the race. This is especially important the first few times you use your block.
The Golden Rule of Heating Ye Salt Block:
20 minutes on low
20 minutes on medium
20 minutes on high"

No need to read step 3. I'm not waiting a damned hour for it to heat up.
