There is an issue with special treatment but here's another angle-

First consider the conversation-

DO: "Sheriff, Darren Olagues here. Look, we've got a little situation here that you might be able to help me with. My wife and I were having a little trouble tonight, she got a little deep into the wine and called 911 and told them that I put my hands on her. Now you know me, I would never do something like that but we've got a couple of your deputies here at the house right now, and they are fine young men just doing their job but they told me that they are going to need to take me down to the jail and book me. Now you know that we've been friends a long time and that's worked out well. I'm going to need to keep this whole deal on the QT, and I'll need your help doing so. Here's the deputy, please speak to him."

Let's say Olagues gets booked and released in the Usain Bolt method he did and then turns around, goes home and immediately shoots his wife when he should have still been in the booking process? The Rapides Parish SO (spelled the fine citizenry of Rapides Parish) are now on the hook for civil damages.

That was an extremely poor decision by the Sheriff.

tl/dr: Do the crime, (or have enough of a reasonable suspicion to be arrested for a crime), do the time.

. In hindsight it was correct, cause none of that dramatic shite you mentioned could happen did happen

He is paid to make decisions like that every day

And do the crime, do the time? Has everyone here forgotten that the sheriff doesn't sentence? And like it or not, the CEO was going home later, he was deemed not a threat...especially since he sat and waited and went in peacefully with full cooperation.

Only problem with that theory is that it is known he and his wife have been separated at the time of this incident.
