the point of the play is to catch the ball with a head of steam. If the play is not well blocked its fricked because the RB cannot make a good cut at that speed. You are pretty much committed

Good RBs still gain yards on poorly blocked hand off plays.

It most certainly is not.the point of the play is to get the rb the ball as quickly as possible.
