It will work out for him barring injury, but most early entrants don't ever get that lucrative second contract. If a player has the potential to move up by staying, it pays off more times than not to stay.

Not sure how Danielles lack of development could be taken any other way??

I see it different. Declaring early got him away from coaches that were teaching him nothing and will get that coveted 2nd contract a year sooner.
Exactly. He made the right choice. Another year wasted under those two and his stock likely would have dropped further. Got with coaches that actually taught him to use a variety of techniques to rush the passer.

Exactly Tiger fans have a habit of shitting in anybody who leaves. Hunters lack of pass rush skills was on Haley not Chavis.

Chavis was the DC making $1.5million, and had plenty of opportunities to address Haley's poor coaching. He didn't, just like he didnt do anything to help Myles Garrett.
He didn't coach or recruit. He runs some drills and calls plays (non aggressive plays at that).

He's wasn't Haley's boss Miles was and position coaches are the ones that put you through drills and teach technique. You may have a DC step in during team practice and give you a tip or something like that but they never go and takeover drills or technique for a group they don't coach. Chavis has never fooled with dlineman the only group he teaches with are LBs.

Said when he was coming out that he'd be a better NFL player than college.
Had all the tools and more.
So happy for the young man.
I also feel the same applies to Lewis Neal and Malachi Dupre.

I would not consider Danielle hunter "thin" during his college days. He was built really well

Aside from completely shutting down his side of the field against the run and having over 70 tackles,13 tfl,1.5 sacks,6 pass defended,1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery , yeah he did nothing.

Not sure what Chavis did or didn't do at LSU as far as recruiting, but he recruits his arse off now.
On field results are still lacking in 2nd half if year still.

It can't be disputed that Hunter was productive his last year, he obviously was... what most take issue with is that you had NFL coaches publicly question the teaching abilities of coaches at LSU. Not once, but twice in a short period, with Chicago saying the same about Ego Ferguson.
Any way you look at it, it's quite an indictment of mainly Haley, and by extension to a degree, Chavis and Les.

Athletes pick up fundamentals quickly in the NFL or they are 2 and done. Sounds like The Vikings coached him up.

Thin for a run stopping end is what I meant. Doesn't matter how gay ppl are for his body 250 and under standing 6"5 is a slim built DE.

Chavis was a DLineman himself. If he didnt see proper skills being taught or used on the field, he easily could have addressed it. YEes, Miles would have ultimately made the call, but he liked Chavis a lot and would have respected that opinion.
As to the Aggie saying Chavis is recruiting his arse off now, I'll wait and see. Looks like he's recruiting a bunch of slight bodied LBs. He had those guys at LSU too, and Kwon Alexander and Debo Jones are 3x better in the NFL than they were at LSU ( not that they were bad, but his soft schemes lets offenses run in space constantly)

Yes he likes smaller LBs that can fly. My point about him teaching techniques is if you played or ever been to a practice you know that coaches don't do that unless it's part of their job. Chavis helped with LBs along with game planning and running team D. That doesn't leave a lot of time to look over Haley's shoulder to critique the dline. Yes during team practice and film study he could mention stuff but I can tell you from experience if one assistant tries to tell another what to do your likely to see a fist fight.

I think he left when Chavis and Brick left.
He would have learned a lot under O.
But I still agree with his decision given the totality of the circumstances.

A DLine coach is gonna fist fight with the the DCoordinator over giving him suggestions? You realize they aren't assistants at the same pay grade right? Chavis had multiple years to identify flaws in technique and figure out why our defense was getting worse each year with better players.
