OP, I hope you have a lot of time on your hands to start working with a dog. One can have the best breed, but if one doesn't work a dog, even as a young pup, one will be wasting their time. Retrievers need a lot of love to start them off right.

Make sure you get them on pigeons early. In my opinion it's the most important thing you can do for a waterfowl dog in its training. Brings out its prey drive and makes a huge difference in hunting with them.
