Texas GOP member of house introduces bill to radically change social security

On Thursday, Rep. Sam Johnson, a Republican from Texas and chair of the Ways and Means Committee, introduced legislation to significantly cut Social Security.
The bill introduced by Johnson, who is also the chair of the Social Security subcommittee, slashes benefits, adds means testing, and would raise the retirement age from 67 to 69.
For most workers, the bill would cut Social Security benefits substantially. As Michael Linden, associate director for tax and budget policy at Center for American Progress, pointed out on Twitter, a letter from Social Security’s Office of the Actuary calculated workers making around $50,000 would see checks shrink by between 11% and 35%. 4

I will never see Social Security or Medicare in my lifetime, despite my contributions.
I'm not stupid enough to depend on them. I plan as if they are non-starters, even if they take away a not insignificant portion of my yearly income. It gives me the red arse, but I can't do much about it.

Ponzi schemes are doomed to fail. Let's go ahead and get this charade over with.

What makes you think you will never see them?
Posted on 12/9/16 at 9:21 pm to Old Hellen Yeller
Social Security is not a Ponzi scheme.

I am closing in on 30 in two months. There is no way that I see our entitlement system remaining solvent for another 35-40 years.

I'm not sure what else you call a system that is dependent upon contributors to pay off previous ones.

Politicians stole S/S. Don't get me started. I watched back in the eighties when the crooks in Washington pulled a bait-and-switch on S/S funding. George Bush II wanted to create fully funded IRA's for workers. Believe the cost was estimated at $ 1.5 trillion. Never happened. Instead the so-called Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) and Goldman Sachs et al got most (if not all) of the money. The politicians got a slush fund (bogus S/S Trust Fund) and we (future retirees) got screwed.
Want to know the scary part? Had the Republicans not taken over the House (believe it was back in 2010) the democrats were planning to confiscate all IRA and 401k's. Democrat Senator Tom Harkin headed a Congressional Committee looking into the feasibility of confiscating those private retirement accounts.
I have not doubt had Hillary won the election she would have attempted (again) to confiscate those IRA's and 401k's and IMO the Republicans would have let her.
So now along comes this politician........
