I keep hearing our team is gonna look a lot better when he gets back from his injury around Christmas . What do you guys expect , I thought he was more of a wing player but now I read he's a combo guard . Will he be quality depth or is he starter quality ?

I think that he gonna start off coming off the bench, but will eventually be in the starting 5 as the season goes on.

Regardless of whether he "starts" he will play starter minutes. It can actually be very beneficial having a guy like him come off the bench. He is the type of combo guard that is long, quick, and can really get up and down the floor fast. Think a more athletic Charles Carmouche, but IMO not as good/consistent a shooter. What he will add immediately is toughness and will be from his first time playing a difference maker for this team, they will really surprise people, but it will end up probably making fans question CJJ even more. This is a talented team, a fun team, and imo they compliment one another much better than previous teams.

CJJ was pimping him pretty good in the paper yesterday. But then so has he on some other kids that turned out to be not as good as advertised.

I hear he is quick and can play some point. We'll see. I'm hopeful for the best but worried he comes in and there's jealousy over playing time, or whatever again and this thing implodes again and the kids quit on Johnny again like they did last year....and they did, except for Blakeney.

While that is natural, Patterson and Mays are both very unselfish and true team first guys .

Really like this team, even more so than last year.

Better is a relative term.

Pure basketball player, no. But he's very athletic, he's a defensive bulldog, and plays with a mean streak from Chicago.

In JUCO he averaged like 5 assists and 4 rebounds a match. Not a great shooter, but he's a great athlete and I hope his knee is healthy. He's really going to make an impact on defense

Patterson

Patterson is unselfish, but he brings so so little on offense. And although he's great on D, he's 6 foot and bigger guards can crush him. Jenkins is way better than JP

He does play D
And having him on court with Reath will help since they played JC together

I agree, just simply putting he is pretty good rotation piece and will be a 4 year contributor for the Tigers, something that even in Brady's tenure we sometimes lacked We need 4 year guys that from year to year that build a program. He has struggled to shoot the ball this year, but "although he's great on D", in today's AAU world I will take a Patterson on my team everyday. He plays hard and will always have a spot in the rotation, we are saying the same thing, JP will get some minutes taken away, but if he can come off the bench and provide a defensive spark with the second unit of Jenkins, Sims, and Epps, we can push for a tourney bid.

I really really like him coming off the bench this year, he can defend 3 positions, rebound, handle the ball, and most importantly which I think this team lacks is a Power-5 toughness. Meaning he can hang with any team on both ends, sometimes LSU has lacked that with CJJ teams, they have guys that do not belong on one end or both.

I'm trying Coast but it's gonna take some doing for CJJ to gain back my trust. I want to see the kids consistently accountable, something I've never seen under CJJ and what IMHO ultimately festered into implosion year 4.

I have little faith in CJJ making this "program" a year in and year out tourney team and to the point where I do not want to bang my head on the seat in front of me half tghe game. But I will always support the Tigers and no matter who the coach is think they will win the next game.

But from a purely basketball standpoint, this team is deeper and plays better together. They are tougher and to me what makes them better already is nobody is really expecting much, so from that mental standpoint they are looking to prove some things. I know it is very ahrd to understand the #1 pick, another player that makes an NBA roster and a D-League guy that will play in the league one day, you lose that and they are better somehow? I think they are from a purely team standpoint, not talent wise.

Branden Jenkins would have started last year at LSU.

He's not a traditional PG however he can play the point. He's got a good shot, can run the floor with the best of them, and is an excellent on ball defender. He will share point guard duties with Skylar Mays. Mays is a great distributor but isn't a true scoring PG, Jenkins can score the basketball.

I've been going to 90% of the home games the last 30 years so yeah I qualify there too.

For me too early and not enough of a sample size to make that leap. I will say second half of last year Blakeney was the only player who gave a shite and put out consistent effort, so he'll always be a kid I pull for. That the rest of the team quit on CJJ is why I'll probably never have faith in him again...and I really didn't have a whole bunch to start with.
