I'm a concealed handgun instructor so I may throw a lot of information at you in this reply. Take some time to digest it.
You should definitely be looking at a full sized 9mm so it's good that you're focused on that. If you have any desire for your significant other (or future SO) to use it too, a full sized 9mm is my highest recommendation.

I think one suggestion that is underrepresented in this thread is the FN FNS 9mm. It is an insanely underrated gun and I absolutely love mine. The factory grip is a bit of a cheese grater feel so I'd advise getting some rubberized Talon Grips for it.

Bapple, thanks a ton, unless I catch a second wind I will read that tomorrow morning so I don't rush and can digest it... I'm sure I will have some follow up questions so stick around
