I like the idea of the Playbar, Sub and the Play 1s with for surround sound. I personally would only go that route if I didn't have existing speakers and a sub.

To answer your question, it looks like you can configure a Connect Amp for surround:

Yea part of my personal dilemma too is that my current receiver is not a 4k passthrough receiver. So eventually, I'll have to upgrade that + my TV.

I may just buy one of the new play:5s and just have myself and family use that when we wanna jam out in our living room. Anything other than that and we MUST go through the receiver.

I'm just not sure the cons I have currently are worth:
Playbar = 699$
Sub = 699$
2 x Play:1s = 400$

That's $1,800 before tax and while it might be nice, that's a lot of cash.
